What we do / The programme

Support that holds together.

Equal Coloured Education is an initiative powered by the National Coloured Congress (NCC). Rights, learning, safety and opportunities are connected. Our proposed approach treats them as parts of one learner’s journey, rather than separate problems.

01 / Programme pillars

Four ways to build a fair chance.

ECE is a movement and programme focused on learner rights, retention, learning, safety, wellbeing and pathways beyond school.

01

Rights & Legal Protection

No learner should be pushed out of education without understanding their rights or having access to appropriate support.

02

Academic Support

Remaining enrolled is not enough. Learners also need opportunities to progress through tutoring and other learning support.

03

Safety & Wellbeing

Education becomes much more difficult when learners do not feel safe travelling to school, being at school or returning home.

04

Pathways Into Opportunity

Education must lead to further learning, skills development, mentorship and meaningful opportunities.

02 / Accountability

Measure what matters.

ECE is being designed around measurable outcomes rather than activity alone. These are proposed measures for the model, not outcomes already achieved.

Retention

Did the learner remain engaged in education?

Progression

Did the learner improve and progress?

Completion

Did the learner reach matric?

Pathway

Did the learner move into further education, training, employment or another meaningful next step?
